  • PLA is a polymer of DL-lactic acid and PLGA is a copolymer of DL-lactic acid and
    glycolic acid.
  • PLA and PLGA are biodegradable, bioresorbable and biocompatible. Their
    carbon hydrolysis products, lactic and glycolic acid that are ultimately converted
    to dioxide and water when implanted in human tissue are constituents in
    normal metabolic pathways.
  • PLA and PLGA are susceptible to hydrolysis even in the absence of enzyme.
  • PLA and PLGA are excellent drug carriers that can be utilized to DDS for
    sustained and long-term drug release.
